Thanks for stopping by! If you’re looking for serious Olympic-style Weightlifting … you just found heaven.
Our competitive team is nationally known, and the largest in the state of Oregon. Our sports performance program is second to none. And we hit more PR’s (personal records) in a week than most people hit in a year.
I’m not saying all that to brag, but to encourage you to stop in and try us out. I promise, not only will you work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life, make better progress than you currently think is possible, you’ll also have a heck of a good time.
We’re one big happy family here, and we’d love for you to join us.

More About PDX Weightlifting …
We’re a Sports Performance and Olympic Weightlifting club here in SE Portland, Oregon. What that means in practice is that we’re a bunch of athletes from a lot of sports who train hard on the Olympic lifts (snatch, clean, and jerk) and other “old school” exercises like squats, deadlifts, push presses, chins, rows, etc. You know … the stuff that gets you kicked out of most gyms.
We’re also home to an Olympic weightlifting team of the same name that has grown into one of the largest and most active clubs in the state of Oregon. We compete all the time, and have members in a wide range of age and weight classes.
(The picture here is of PDX Weightlifting member, Riley, playing in the State Championships. He ended up being conference player of the year, and was invited to join spring practices at 3 area colleges!)
The Basic Philosophy
Most sports specific training programs get everything backwards. They have a list of things they want to accomplish in the following order:
- Sports Skills
- Agility
- Explosive Power
- Total Body Strength and Stability
This is completely in the wrong direction!
Here’s the way it REALLY works:

You need strength and stability to build power safely; you need strength and power to be truly agile; and you need strength, power, and agility to be maximally effective at training your sports skills.
The thing is, you have to be a good “all around” athlete before you can be a good specific athlete. Ever seen the show, “Shaq VS”? It’s just Shaq running around challenging pro athletes at their own sports. He often loses, of course, but not by much. He has never played almost any of these sports in his life, and yet he’s still keeping up with most of them.
How can he do that? Is he magic? NO. He’s just a good all-around athlete with lots of real-world strength and conditioning that he can apply to any sport. Of course, on top of all of that strength and power and conditioning, he’s spent years becoming good at the specific sport of Basketball. But, without a solid strength and conditioning foundation, he would never have gotten where he did.
Here at PDX Weightlifting, we build your foundation.
